Did you become a mental health professional because you think it is an amazing privilege to accompany someone on their journey of healing and growth? Do you read self-development books for fun?  Do you nerd-out on learning new theories and psychotherapeutic techniques? After years of training and education, and even more years honing your craft, do you now sometimes find yourself looking at the clock during sessions, hoping for a cancelation, or not having anything left to give in your life when you get home at night?

We’ve all been there, and we know there is a better way. We can’t be a gift to our clients if we aren’t walking the talk.  One of the guiding principles of our practice is that life comes first. We show up for our clients because we show up for ourselves first. Being a mental health professional is part of how we express who we are, but it is not all of who we are.

Let’s get real. Most of us in this field are not independently wealthy. So, we also must make a living. Do you feel called to this line of work and also need to pay your bills? Of course!  It will feel refreshing to openly discuss serving clients while also looking out for your own financial, physical, and emotional well-being. We can’t teach boundaries if we don’t have them ourselves.

Our practice isn’t run by a corporation or a venture capital firm. Our practice is run by a psychologist.  A psychologist who knows what it’s like to do this amazingly difficult emotional work.  We also are humble enough to know that we aren’t MBA’s, and we had better seek and accept wise counsel if we want to continue to enjoy a strong, stable practice. We are passionate about being a great place to work and we know that the business and all its employees can only do our best work if we have a solid business to do our work from.

Does this work environment sound like what you envisioned when you first decided to pursue graduate school? It is for many of us!

Here’s what our employees have to say about what it’s like to work at our practice:

“Positive, professional environment, autonomy as a trusted professional, no micromanaging.”

“Support and reliability from other members of the practice and the staff.”

“Access to meaningful clinical work in a flexible and friendly environment.”

“Laid back; dynamic; flexible.”

So, who are we looking for and who do we hire? (First of all, we hire people who put up with reading this entire job ad!) We are looking for psychologists, counselors, social workers and marriage therapists.

  • Mostly we hire independently licensed folks (LPCC, IMFT, LISW, and psychologists)
  • Occasionally we bring a post-doc, LPC, LSW, or MFT aboard.
  • Everyone must have a heart for this work, a solid theoretical base, and at least one year of full-time direct outpatient clinical work that includes experience with diagnosing, treatment planning, and individual psychotherapy.
  • Testing experience is a bonus for psychologists.
  • We are looking for clinicians who want to work full-time. To us, that looks like 20+ billable hours per week. We find there is a more cohesive work culture when we can be around each other more often.
  • Hybrid work (home and office) is an option. We are always intentional about finding ways to interact, connect, and benefit from each other whether it’s in-person or over Zoom.

What are the downsides you ask?  You could make more money with a big salaried job at a local hospital. Hands down, that is true. You have to know what you want for this stage of your career. If you want the environment and flexibility we provide then let’s talk. We will be honest with you about building and maintaining steady income and how to look at health insurance options. We know how to help our employees obtain affordable health insurance. It’s not as scary and expensive as you might think.

We are overflowing with clients to give you. What’s your perfect case load look like? Building and maintaining a steady income comes easily if you have the therapy skills and give us the open hours to fill. Full administrative support is provided so that you can focus on what you do best. Our practice was founded in 1985 and enjoys a solid reputation and steady referrals. That is a legacy we take seriously every day.

If you can imagine happily co-existing in the office (or the virtual office) with people like us, we would be excited to meet you and hear about your current career and life goals.  Submit your resume along with a cover letter to [email protected].   Please discuss in the cover letter what draws you to a group practice environment and how you “walk the talk” in your own life.  You can expect a reply from us within 3 days of submitting your information.
